In the midnight hour, he can feel her power.
Anderson Cooper recalled a "truly mortifying" experience at a Madonna concert in Brooklyn, New York, on Kelly Ripa's "Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa" podcast. The pair, who've been friends for decades, are Madonna super-fans, and remembered an incident (from 2015, according to CNN) where Cooper was plucked from the audience and onto the stage.
"That I choose to forget," Cooper, 56, said on the episode.
Ripa, who was with him at the time, recalled the moment well: "She's gonna pull you on stage, and bend you over, and spank you," the 52-year-old said.
"All of which I sort of heard," Cooper said, "but I didn't really hear and then they were pulling me away to get on the thing. And I was just like, 'OK,' I didn't know what the hell was going on. I was terrible. I danced terribly, it was mortifying."
He added: "You're standing on this thing. And then she hands you a banana. And right before that she'd like, pushed me over and humped me, which I didn't expect at all." He started to peel and eat banana before being lowered down on an elevator disappearing from the stage, still eating the banana.
"Anyone listening this, please do not go and look at it online because it's just mortifying," Cooper said. "Truly mortifying."
Cooper launched his own podcast, "All There Is with Anderson Cooper," about a year ago detailing his grief journey and the losses of his mother, brother and father.
"I don't want my kids to feel this burden or this weight of the past," he told USA TODAY at the time. "I want them to know who my mom was, my dad was, my brother was, and find them interesting and want to know about them, and ask questions."
