One of the most iconic award shows is back.
Indeed, the MTV Video Music Awards—which will air live on Sept. 10 from UBS Arena in New York— is nearly here, and the nominations have just been released. With multiple nods to Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and SZA, this year’s show is full of fierce competition—as well as some newcomers, too. After all, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan have received their first-ever recognition from the MTV ceremony after their 2024 breakouts.
Still, the face behind the Eras Tour leads the VMAs pack with 10 nominations—and could break another record at this year’s ceremony if she comes away with the Video of the Year win for “Fortnight.”
After taking the night’s biggest honor in 2022 for “All Too Well” and 2023 for “Anti-Hero,” Taylor could be the first artist to not only three-peat in the category, but also win the accolade five times (she also previously won for “Bad Blood” in 2015 and “You Need to Calm Down” in 2019). In addition to “Fortnight” earning Taylor eight nominations at this year’s VMAs, she is also up for Best Pop and Artist of the Year.
And since he’s featured on the collaboration with Taylor, Post Malone follows closely behind her with nine nominations, including a double nod in the Best Collaboration category for “Fortnight” and “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen. Meanwhile, Ariana proved that she is still bewitching the music industry with eternal sunshine, earning six nominations—tying with Eminem and the “Please, Please, Please” singer.
As for other notable nods, Olivia Rodrigo is named in four categories for videos across her Guts era—including recognition for her “obsessed,” in Best Cinematography, “bad idea, right?” in Best Art Direction and “get him back!” in Best Visual Effects. Megan Thee Stallion’s “BOA” video earned her four nominations across categories including Best Hip-Hop, Best Direction, Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects, and she also earned a spot in the Best Collaboration category for “Wanna Be” with GloRilla.
You can make sure your favorite artist—or your favorite artist’s favorite artist—wins by voting at vote.mtv.com until Aug. 30 (Sept. 10 for the “Best New Artist” category).
In the meantime, keep reading to see every nomination at the 2024 VMAs.
